Wiki Leaked?

A quarter-million Cables have been leaked from the United States Government. Now I am  referring to someone stealing TV cables from the White House but  classified information. The cables where leaked by the now known to the government as the infamous Wikileaks. What is Wikileaks? Wikileaks is a website that’s publishes classified files from the government, corporations, and even religious documents. Sometimes leaks are purposely leaked by government officials. 

Wikileaks gained popularity off of a video of American soldiers killing unarmed Arab civilians and wounding children. Over 66 thousand civilians have been killed since the US invaded Iraq. There are three questions. What should be done about Wikileaks? Sense the leakers are not in America but a soldier in Bagdad. Is Wikileaks good? Finally does Wikileaks put people’s lives in danger?

The most recent leaked was a conversation between General David Petraeus and Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh talking about covering up US military strikes on Al-Qaeda. President Ali Abdullah Saleh said they will cover up the strikes by saying Yemeni forces were behind the attacks.

The first leaks were by a American soldier who had access to a government computer and simply downloads the files to a USB giving birth to Wikileaks. Some are calling Wikileaks a truth digger however President Barrack Obama said leaking the files only hindered the United States. The government is conducting a criminal investigation. General Eric Holder said the investigation will hold “anybody who is involved in the breaking of American law."

Wikileaks may be a truth digger however the person behind Wikileaks is putting people’s lives in danger? After the leaks an Iranian nuclear scientist was killed in a suicide bomb attack and another wounded after a motorcycle pulled up side them with and attached a bomb to the car. One can look at Wikileaks as a older brother bringing his new girlfriend to dinner, and when the date leaves and the whole family gets together and talks about the date. Then one of the family members tells the date all of the bad things the family said about her.

In the end Wikileaks needs to be shut down and the person behind it should be arrested. Wikileaks is toying with a fragile economy and democracy.

As many Americans got ready for work North Korea bombed South Korea with over 100 coastline artillery rounds on the western coast of Yeonpyeong island. The bomb shelling set fire to thousands of houses of fishermen and marine bases leaving them to flea for their lives. Two Korean marines have been declared dead. North Korea has made false accusations saying South Korea fired first. However after the North Korean attack South Korea immediately counter the attack with 80 self propelled artillery shells, which lasted for an hour.

This is the first official attack exchanged by Korean nations since the Korean War which ended in July 27, 1953 with an armistice. An armistice is when both conflicting side agree to stop fighting. However, the war is not officially over.  In my last post I talked about the START treaty and what it meant to the world and how unstable the world’s nations are. With one bad move the whole world would go in to chaos.

The North Korean attacks could be that one incident. The South Korean President, Lee Myung-bak has all military units placed on high alert.  North Korea has threaten the South with more attacks if the cross sea borders by 0.001 mm. the last sea skirmishes was in march when North Korea open fire on Southern ships killing 46 South Korean sailors.

North Korea attacking the South was foolish (or whoever attacked first). 

If peace is not made in North and South Korean the attacks might led to a bigger war. Though this conflict is dangerous most nations are not willing just to go to war. China and Russia siding with the North and America, Japan and India siding with the south is not a good mix. Most really  do not want to go to war, Russia wanting to sign the START treaty will prohibit Russia and America from exchanging attacks. China wanting to be number one in the economy war will not be in their best interest.

If china does go to war they will force the hand of India. Basically when one war is started other will follow. Please post comments below

NEW START

  One of the most important treaties that keeps peace between the USA and the USSR is the START treaty (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty). START was proposed by former Commander and Chef Ronald Reagan. It was to reduce the number of strategic arms in both the US and  the USSR. The START Treaty was renewed under George H.W. Bush and renamed START II. However START will end December, 2010.

  President Barrack Obama and the Democratic Party want to get the treaty renewed as swiftly as possible. However, the Republicans want to delay the renewing of the treaty in anticipation of a new congress arriving in January; where the republican house will be expanded by six. The reason for this is when the Republican Party expandes in the congress they will be able to overturn the START treaty.

  Republicans articulate that the treaty has several holes in it and is against the good of the county. Republicans claims that the treaty will do three things. The New START will hinder US defense systems, Russia will swindle their way though parts of the treaty and the US cannot afford to send inspectors to Russian land and will have to wait until next year and the treaty can not truly determine how many nuclear warheads each side has.

  To resolve the first accusation, New START does not put constraints on any side to diminish missile defense. The missile defense system does not contain nuclear weapons. They are made to intercepted nuclear tripped weapons. Secondly, Russia will not be able to cheat the treaty due to all  the intense inspections. In the end, it would be harder to determine the count of nuclear weapons without the treaty.

  Now the republicans are not malingering for nothing. The Republicans are prohibiting the treaty as a result in the 2012 elections President Barrack Obama will not have NEW START under his arm. Some republicans have stated that their “number one priority is to make sure president Obama is not re-elected”

  Renewing the START treaty is important. The START treaty holds the safety and peace of the world. The stability of the world’s nations are very unstable, If the peace of the United States and Russia are fractured and interact with conflicted will start a chain reaction of wars possibility creating a WWIII.   

A new study of the most commonly used drug has been released. Marijuana makes up for 76 percent of illegal drugs used in the US. Many people  who use Marijuana are blind to the effects. The new study led by Mary Kathryn Dahlgren says that Marijuana effects user that started at a young age the most. 

Marijuana effects cognitive abilities, causes mass activity in the frontal lobe of the brain, and endures brain development. This new research has uncovered new questions about legalizing Marijuana, and how to stop the use of Marijuana among youth.

While we are talking about marijuana let's use California as an example. Marijuana clinics are more common then Starbucks and schools in California. These clinics are for people with health issues. In many cases marijuana subdues pain to many people. However, is California going too far with legalized marijuana? How (Junky proof is their system)? How does this affect the youth?

The act of legalizing marijuana is a good thing. A person should not be imprisoned for  the procession of marijuana. When walking into a marijuana clinic it looks and feels more like a ShopRite. Marijuana is showcased in glass jars throughout the clinic. The patient can choose from different types of marijuana from Blue Dream, Train Wreck, to Chem Dawg and more.  Most clinics serve more the 600 people a day.

  

What are the long term affects of medical marijuana? Will the patient develop the same cognitive abilities as the test subjects?

The U.S. Department of Health, Human Services, has teamed up to issue new warning labels on all cigarette boxes by 2012. These warnings will also include picture. The bottom half of the box will advertise the brand. However the top half and 20 percent of the back of the box will depict either a man smoking through his tracheotomy hole from his throat, a mother blowing smoke into her baby’s face, a man who is suffering  from a heart attack, or a dead man with a large scar on his chest. To top it off a Warning saying “CIGARETTES WILL CAUSE CANCER” will be slapped next to the new graphic pictures. These are only a few of the many warning labels. 

The new cancer Advertisements has raised questions. Will the warning labels really reduce smoking? Some say the new warning signs are trying to control people’s lives. Will the labels backfire?  This will be a new law for American companies however this has been in Canada’s law for the last few year.  The new labels on the boxes have done wonders for Canada by reducing their smoking by populations 20 percent. Nevertheless, will this work of America?

 

The federal government expectations are not to wipe out smoking in America and a lot of people are going to smoke regardless. Although, in the long term the new warning labels will reduce smoking just by letting people know the effects of smoking. Letting people know the effects of smoking should reduce smoking especially in impoverished cities and in children. By panting a bad image on cigarettes will change the view of cigarettes in the mind of our child today.

In the case of the labels controlling people’s live is blaspheme. The labels are just informing people the effects of smoking. For a question for the reader is it better to keep the causes of smoking a secret and let people kill them self without letting them know the full effect of smoking?

Patrick Basham, adjunct scholar says the graphic warnings on cigarette packages may actually increase smoking. Basham says "It's an explicit act of rebellion." he also says "And increasingly we're suggesting -- unintentionally -- to young people that if they take up smoking, it's an avenue, an instrument by which they can express their rebellion against authority.”To comment on Mr. Basham there will always be a rebellious group conversely the group that the warning labels will turn away will outweigh the rebellious group. 

In the end the new labels will save the government millions of dollars year.  450,000 people die in America ever year from  smoking and second hand smoke. smoking also causes health care 100 billion dollars a year to treat smoking patient.

Incarceration In Camden

Let’s take the city of Camden New Jersey. The city of Camden local jail has around 1,650 inmates. However, the jail was built to hold 1,250, this mean the jail is over 500 people over capacity. The State pays 50,000 Dollars a person to keep in jail a year and over a year the states will have given Camden County Jail 82,500,000 Dollars a year.

By privatizing jails and prisons instead of the giving the city 50,000 Dollars the owner would ask for 30,000. How do they make money from this when they are given less money? Instead of quality materials and guards they will use cheaper metals for beds and cells, hire cheaper guards and foods.   
 

How does this link to US incarceration rates. If prison become privatized police will enforce  peccadillo arrest. There already have been cases of police and parole-officers falsely violating young teens on parole. Therefore privatizing jails and prisons will only make this matter like these worse.

For minors Camden County has Lakeland that has tried to do the same thing under to control of Mary Previte. 

Who is Mary Previte? Mary Previte was Born in China in 1932, she was the daughter of two parents who were missionary and the great-great granddaughter of James Hudson Taylor. (Who was James Taylor?) James Taylor was the first British Protestant Christian missionary to China. Mr. Taylor was known as China's greatest missionary. He also founder of the China Inland Mission that provided China with 800 missionary that lead to the opening to over a 100 schools, 300 work places, and 18,000 Christians. Now that was have a back ground from where Miss Mary comes from let’s get back.  

At the age of 9 she was separated from her parents for five and a half years, Do to  her imprisonment for three years during World War II in a Chinese concentration camp. At the age of 14 she was reunited with her family and moved to America and lost her hand in a buzz saw accident. 

Mary went on in life to get her education. later Mary Previty went on to get a B.A. from  Greenville Collage and a M.A. from Glassboro State Collage. She is elected to Voorhees Board of education, and then elected Administrator of Camden County Youth Center also known as Lakeland.  

 What is Lakeland? Lakeland is a pre-trial juvenile detention center for minors. Teens come in and are put up with a mentor to work with them and help them when they got out. In some cases when they get out teens are occupied by a (so called mentor) call eda probation officer to help them get back on track.

Mary found out that the more inmates Lakeland housed the more money the state gave them. Therefore Mary Previty violated over 37 teens on parole. She probably did this to update work related things such as a new office, to extend her organizations, to give her workers more vacation days or better pay. 

These are all great thing for the worker and the organization but two wrongs does not make a right. However at the end of the year Mary was not able to see the end of the year as the head the Camden county youth center do to Judge Leon Hornstein.

Judge Leon Hornstein had launched a investigation on Mary Previte. In the end the center did not receive any extra money.

The chart above brakes down the inmates in Lakeland. The first 25 percent represented in the red are children between the ages of 13-18 suffering from mental health problems. 

The other 25 percent shown in the green also represents adolescents incarcerated for minor offences or action that are not illegal. Such as running away from home or skipping school.

15 percent represented by the yellow are people incarcerated for minor possession. Such as the possession of cigarettes, weed, or alcohol, where in most cases they should have gotten a call to their parents or at most a fine.

And finally the blue represents inmates that belong in Lakeland and foster children. Yes In some cases Lakeland acts as a foster home. This is illegal and is also used to boost numbers. In the end Lakeland only houses less than 30 percent of the inmate that should be there. A total Lakeland houses over 117 inmates. This is over 40 percent over its capacity. This is very high but in early 2002 and late 2003 Lakeland had over 240 inmates equaling to six a room, where lake land was built for every inmate to have his or her own room.

To conclude if you subtract all of the inmates that do not belong there an estamenet of 30 inmates belong in Lakeland less than the number that lake land was built to hold.
